Taking care of YOU!
I recently had a “Come to Jesus” meeting with myself. IKR?! Sometimes it is necessary to check yourself. I had been in my feelings too long and just wasn’t understanding myself, so I took a moment to get real.
In being real with myself there were tears. Lots of tears. I’m actually over crying and yet somehow know there are still more tears to be cried. I know tears are cleansing and for me they have been a way of escape. They have been thoughts that I needed to say but was not brave enough to. They have been feelings I didn’t understand fully. Tears have been my friends/companions, necessary reminders that I am not alone in this world that can often times feel very lonely.
In these moments I have found ways to care for me. I take care of everybody and have all the answers to their problems (sound familiar). It’s funny how giving that same level of care to me feels scary, selfish even. I am learning that it is not selfish to say yes to yourself. It is best to say yes to you even if that means saying no to someone else.
Taking care of you also means being honest with yourself. Most of the things we deal with in life are because we are not being honest with ourselves either about what it is or how we feel about what it is. “They” say honesty is the best policy and if that is true start with self. This journey to care for self will not be an easy transition especially since we live a in a world that makes us feel like we can’t.
